THE Commissioner for Information in Sokoto State, Bello Muhammad-Goronyo, has been sacked by Governor Aminu Tambuwal, following his defection to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that this was disclosed in a statement issued by Tambuwal’s head of Media and Public relations, Malam Abubakar Shekara who said, “Governor Aminu Tambuwal has relieved Barr. Bello Goronyo of his appointment as commissioner for information with immediate effect. The permanent secretary has been directed to take over the affairs of the Ministry immediately”.
Shekara had explained that the decision of the Sokoto state government to sack the Information Commissioner was because of his perceived sabotage of the state government’s efforts on its laudable programmes and activities in the state.
However, opinions gathered from allies close to the Commissioner revealed that Tambuwal’s action was in response to Muhammad-Goronyo defection earlier on Tuesday evening from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The former Commissioner, who was also the chairman of publicity and media committee of the PDP Governorship Campaign Council in Sokoto state, towards the 2019 election, had reportedly announced his defection at an APC campaign rally in Wamakko, a development that the APC is strongly claiming, led to the the sudden sack of the Commissioner from the Sokoto State executive cabinet.
